Last week’s plan was derailed, feedback showed that my style in creating cards was too similar to each other for people to clearly see the difference, and my style of drawing was found to be too ‘gothic’ to be appealing to the older generations. With this in mind I returned to look through Amazon, and at what my findings were at the start, and I decided to drop the joke card, as it is the least wanted. As for the ‘whimsical’ cards, looking at everything in another prospective, the objective is the wrong way to describe them, they are still serious, just more colourful.
I decided to move forward in creating serious/colourful greeting cards.
Another feedback given to me last week was to create my own typography, as in writing the letters by hand. Although with dyslexia it would be a challenge, I begun to try things out. I wrote the sentences in word so I knew they would be correct.
Card 1.
I had an idea of trying to use the string of a graduation cap to create the wording of the card. I crated the background by using a piece of watercolour paper and using sunflower watercolour which was blended out a lot throughout the page. For the writing I used my knowledge of cursive writing on the notebook pages I showed before and traced them onto the page digitally. The cap was added digitally, and so was the string, the colour of which was taken from the water-coloured page.
As for colouring, I looked at the ones I got from my research, although deep dark blue is usually used, I saw that it made my art style too gothic, so I decided to use more pastel colours, I believe this made the card unique enough to be able to sell, but not too unique to get no sells.
Card 2

This card is inspired by the more colourful serious cards I saw, and also a challenge to make. The composition and colour choices had to be impeccable to avoid overwhelming or making something too blunt for the buyers. I wanted to see if a ‘normal’ type would help the viewer to understand the card more.
The background and the objects colours were made digitally as I wanted to see if it would make a difference. In this card is also were the four main colours, plus black were decided, and the idea that each item would have the background of a different colour, while the last item, the notebook cover having all of them.

What is next.
The next step is all about what feedback I will receive in the crit.
