Screen Printing: four colours.

This workshop was done the day after Screen Printing Part B, this is why it has been difficult to upload the blog posts in a timely manner as a lot happen in a quick succession.

Like usual, I want to put my notes in:

This screen printing technique is how pictures were created back in the days for newspapers or posters, it consists of halftones which create an illusion for the eye so it will look like the pictures have full colour spectrum.

We were put into pairs and each one created six prints. It was similar to Part A: tape out, get ready and cleaning. So, I decided to skip those parts since they have been already explained in the first blog post of Experience.

The different parts where:

Order of colours:

The technician told us that we need to always print from the lightest to the darkest, but it was easier for registration the paper if the first is Magenta, Yellow, Cyan and Black.

The inclination of the Halftone:

The technician explained to us, and gave us a handy guide on how to create digital files for this process. (see below)

Registration:

One of the problems that can arise with this technique is the registration of the paper could not align perfectly, so the technician told us that we can print on a piece of wobbly plastic (I do not know the specific name for it) and print on that, procede to print on that and fix where the image needs to be.

My experience:

I loved this workshop a lot, I am thinking about creating my own screen and play around with this awesome way of printing. It excites me on how much a person can play around with it: how many stokes of ink to give each colour, to make it more or less intense, using the wrong colours for each image (for example, using cyan in the yellow image) or do not use Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black but other colours to see what would happen. I am still unsure of what to put on the screen though so I will not do this right now.
