This week’s plan is to focus on a particular skill each day, for example, one day I will focus on watercolours, on another lino printing.
Wednesday:
I begun to create my first full sketches of the Death card, just plain symbolisms for now as I still need to iron them down fully. I created these three sketches:

My first priority was to fix the massive proportion issues, I did this via Krita. The screenshots below show the progress I made with them.
The one above is the first layout progress.
The above images are the progress I made for the second sketch.
The images above are the progress I made for the third sketch, This is the one that got more votes.
Thursday
Following the efforts done the day before, I inked the sketch, fixing a few mistakes here and there.
I used the mirror tool to make the image work better although there is an alignment problem which I am still trying to find a solution to.
The coloration is basic, I did not had the time to fully commit to shading as I wanted to stick to one a day experiment, and I finished the time. se below the work in progress.
I feel that the digital version of the picture is lacking depth, and a better thought about the colour combination is clearly needed. On the other hand, mistakes are easily fixable in this medium, and I still used the digitalized sketch to complete the rest of the experimentation so I would have a consistent way to evaluate the medium properly for this project.
Friday.
This is the day I was able to book a place to do Lino Printing professionally. The experience was alright. The lino cuts that I created and their progress are shown below:
The day was mostly good. I was able to create and practice a lot of prints. The only down side was my mistake of wearing too warm clothing and feeling a bit sick after I created enough black prints which prevented me to explore colours in the printing like I planned to. This is a mistake I will not make a second time, I will keep in mind that the workshop does hit up after a while next time I will print and dress accordingly. Other than that miss up, the prints looked great, I was unsure if they would work as I did commit several cutting mistakes while creating the lino cut, like putting too much force in one spot and getting a ‘slip’ cut through some places. They did have this Gothic vibe that I loved, especially when I printed on the watercolour paper I painted. This medium is probably my favourite, but I have to consider the size of the lino as some of the details that where originally there had to be cut away as I struggled to work around them, or have a simpler design.
The prints are drying, I do not have them now.
Saturday.
Watercolours where next on the list of mediums I wanted to try. See below the progress.
I believe that colours must be chosen before I start painting, that would help the artwork a lot. I believe the problem is that I spreed the image in an A4 sheet of paper and that made me loose control of how much water vs pigment I was putting on the page, and this can be clearly seen in the change of hue when I was not mixing enough of one colour. On the other hand, I believe I should give the picture another chance in a smaller scale with better planning.
Sunday
The next medium I usually use to create imagery would be fine liners, below is the progress I made.
This is honestly my favourite so far, it did take a while because of the dimension of the picure to fully darken, but I love how it turned out. There still a lot of room for improvement, but I am proud on how this looks. Looking back this would have been an interesting print more than the ona I already made.
Monday
I pulled out my Pro-markers, a medium I have not used in a while. See below the progress.
The worst thing that happened while colouring in the picture was that some of the Pro-markers run out of ink, ruining the water effect and slightly making the sky look bad, another was the bleed that the ink had and finally mistakenly coloring into the hand. Other than those mess ups, this is my favorite colour combination, perhaps a bit bright.
Tuesday
Pencil chiaro-scuro is a technique I wanted to test out with this picture, I do have some experience prior but not a lot, so I wanted to see
This technique does make the picture interesting, and it is better than others, although if I keep this up I need to work a bit better on my shading as the lady does tend to blend in the background a bit, especially the hair.
Next Week’s plans:
Research a bit more about the symbolism and update the lady design to imbody the card better.
